USAID Youth Empowerment Activity announced the Graduation of 149 participants for the cohort 2a in Leer County Unity State
Leer, Unity State. MHA conducted the graduation of the cohort 2a classes program in Leer County. This proactive initiative is funded by USAID and EDC, as the lead consortium is part of our ongoing commitment to empower young people and enhance creative thinking and job creation for youth across South Sudan.
The nine months of training activities that commenced in February 2024 had come to an end, with the youth acquiring a lot of skills, such as how to read and write and be your own boss. The YEA project overall objectives to reduce poverty and generate long-term socio-economic benefits throughout the country by fostering a supportive environment for youth who have enrolled, and centers are equipped with highly skilled trainers who will guide the youth through the duration of the programs, distribute informational materials, and provide on-the-spot assessments of individual needs and education levels.
MHA executive director John Gatyiel Chuol attended the ceremony alongside several government representatives, including the county executive director, payam administrator, county RRC, and youth leaders. In his remarks, John Gatyiel urged the young people to participate in constructive activities that would prepare them for the future and highlighted the significance of applying the knowledge they had learnt during the training. Additionally, Gatyiel promises that MHA will continue to support the youth at the grassroots levels. In his capacity as the director of the RRC, Paulino Kueh Mawich praised the resilience-type project that provides a second chance to school dropouts and those who never attend courses. He also highlighted the MHA and commission’s successful collaboration.
In his closing remarks, the executive director of Leer County Maet Bapiny congratulates the graduating class and appreciates the donor USAID and EDC as the lead consortium, plus the implementing partner MHA and the YLSOs for doing a wonderful job as well. He said that this YEA is of the first kind to be implemented; he also requested the USAID to continue their support.
